Sammy T’s Restaurant, located at 801 Caroline Street in Historic Downtown Fredericksburg, Virginia began operating in 1981. Since then Sammy T’s has become an iconic Fredericksburg downtown restaurant featuring great fresh food in a friendly and fun environment. Sammy T’s founding father was Samuel T. Emory a longtime Fredericksburg resident and Geography professor at the University of Mary Washington. In December, 2016 Sammy T’s was purchased by a group of retired and experienced business persons and restaurateurs to whom downtown Fredericksburg holds special meaning and memories. As children growing up here we spent many Saturday mornings with our parents on shopping excursions to Caroline Street which, at the time, was the main commercial and retail center for all of Fredericksburg and its surrounding counties.
The building in which Sammy T’s operates was constructed in 1805 and initially served as an Auction House and General Store known at the time as ”Bucks Auction Room.” After the Civil War the building served briefly as a home to Brigadier DanielRuggles, C.S.A who was an inventor and designer of railroad equipment. Afterwards, it became home to the Fredericksburg Post Office until 1921 at which time it served as Horton’s Auto, an auto supply store and automobile fueling station. Sammy T’s predecessor restaurant was “Dugans”, a favorite hangout of the current owners as well as the current owner’s ancestors, opened in the 30’s and operated until 1980 at which time it became home to the now iconic Sammy T’s.
We hope you appreciate our story and the great history of this establishment as well as our great food and beverages, friendly staff, appreciative owners and fun atmosphere. Come and enjoy the unique Sammy T’s experience and let us make you want to come back time and time again. Cheers!
